Gifts of Assets
Did you know that there are many ways to support the Foundation besides writing a check?
Many people like to leave a gift to charity in their will or through other assets because they care about causes that are important in their lives, and the impact can be powerful, no matter the size of the gift.
With a little planning, you can make a gift in your will or through other financial tools to the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation, creating a lasting legacy in support of your future Brothers.
Wills, Bequests & Gifts in Trust
Bequests are made by designating the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation in a will or revocable trust.
Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts
Like charitable remainder unitrusts, donors can establish charitable remainder annuity trusts using cash or assets (if appreciated, assets will be sold tax-free) and receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. These trusts are then invested and pay fixed income to you or any other number of beneficiaries based on life, lives, or a term of up to 20 years.
Charitable Remainder Unitrusts
Donors may choose to transfer cash or assets to fund a charitable remainder unitrust to avoid capital gains and receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. These trusts can generate income for you and the Educational Foundation for life, for a term up to 20 year or life plus a term up to 20 years.
Cryptocurrency
Donors may choose to donate cryptocurrency directly to the Educational Foundation. Cryptocurrency is classified by the IRS as property for tax purposes, making it a more tax efficient way to support Lambda Chi Alpha.
When donating crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto and then made a donation. That means you’re able to donate more, as well as deduct more on your tax return.
Use this donation form to make a donation of cryptocurrency.
Life Insurance
Similar to a bequest, donors may also choose to designate the Educational Foundation as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary of their life insurance policy.
Qualified Charitable Distributions
If you are 72 or older, you can give up to $100,000 per year from your IRA, allowing you to exclude the amount of your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your income, even if you don’t itemize your taxes each year.
Use this form to request a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA administrator.
Retirement Plan Assets
Supporters may also give all or part of their retirement assets (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, etc.) which may otherwise be taxed at greater rates if left to other beneficiaries. By designating the Educational Foundation as the beneficiary on their retirement assets, donors can reduce their tax burden and share a larger portion with family and loved ones.
Securities, STocks & Mutual Funds
Appreciated securities can be given to the Educational Foundation. They can offer income tax deduction benefits as well as savings on capital gains.

Other non-traditional investments, such as partnership interests, can donated after review and advice of legal counsel and upon approval of the Foundation Board of Directors.

Your Values. Your Legacy.
WHAT CAN ONE GIFT SPARK?
After he authored Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity’s ritual, Dr. John E. “Jack” Mason Jr. (Pennsylvania 1913), our spiritual founder, went on to serve as an educator in his home state until his passing in 1946.
In his will, Brother Mason left a gift to Lambda Chi Alpha worth $2,500 to benefit current and future Brothers joining the Fraternity. The next General Assembly passed a resolution that established a trust known then as the John E. Mason Foundation that was to be operated exclusively for beneficent, charitable, literary, and educational purposes.
In 1968, the trust became the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation, and from its humble start, has grown to assets of more than $13 million and supports thousands of Brothers every year by funding the Fraternity’s programs and conferences, as well as direct support in the form of academic scholarships, housing grants and emergency aid for those facing a crisis.
Lambda Chi Alpha is the only international social fraternal organization with an affiliated non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that was directly established by one of its most important founding members. Our legacy is rooted in our history.
