Ways to Give

Giving to Lambda Chi Alpha means that you are shaping the lives of our future brothers, providing them with opportunities and resources to make a lasting impact. There are many ways that a gift can be given, each providing valuable benefits to Lambda Chi Alpha and the donor as well.

The Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation is 501c3 organization (EIN 13-6266432) and charitable contributions are tax deductible. Here are some of the ways you can give to Lambda Chi Alpha:

Outright Gifts of Cash

Gifts of cash remain a valuable and viable source of donations to the Foundation. These gifts provide tangible resources to help further the mission of Lambda Chi Alpha. There are a variety of methods to make a cash gift, including online, by phone, by mail, or by bank transfer.

Online

You have the ability to make an immediate impact. Through our online giving process, you have the ability to make a single gift, or schedule a recurring gift monthly, quarterly, or yearly.

Donor Advised Fund

With a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), donors receive immediate tax benefits after making contributions to the fund, but can support nonprofits at their convenience, over time.

Planned Gifts

A gift associated with a will and the final distribution of an estate, offer donors and the Foundation significant opportunity. By leaving part, or all of an estate to the Foundation, the donor has numerous opportunities to see his wishes established and carried out. There are a number of planning tools available.

Bequests & Gifts in Trust

Bequests are made by designating the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation in a will or revocable trust. Gifts of this kind are commonly used to leave a lasting legacy while simultaneously reducing the tax burden on family and loved ones.

Bequests can be made to the Educational Foundation in one of the following three ways:

  • Percentage bequest: a gift of a percentage of an estate
  • Specific bequest: a gift of a specific dollar amount or tangible asset
  • Residual bequest: a gift from the balance of an estate
  • Contingent bequest: a gift that is made only if the primary bequest cannot be met

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts

Like charitable remainder unitrusts, donors can establish charitable remainder annuity trusts using cash or assets (if appreciated, assets will be sold tax-free) and receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. These trusts are then invested and pay fixed income to you or any other number of beneficiaries based on life, lives, or a term of up to 20 years.

Charitable Remainder Unitrusts

Donors may choose to transfer cash or assets to fund a charitable remainder unitrust to avoid capital gains and receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. These trusts can generate income for you and the Educational Foundation for life, for a term up to 20 year or life plus a term up to 20 years.

Life Insurance

Similar to a bequest, donors may also choose to designate the Educational Foundation as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary of their life insurance policy.

Qualified Charitable Distributions

If you are 72 or older, you can give up to $100,000 per year from your IRA, allowing you to exclude the amount of your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your income, even if you don’t itemize your taxes each year. Use this form to request a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA administrator.

Retirement Plan Assets

Supporters may also give all or part of their retirement assets (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, etc.) which may otherwise be taxed at greater rates if left to other beneficiaries. By designating the Educational Foundation as the beneficiary on their retirement assets, donors can reduce their tax burden and share a larger portion with family and loved ones.

Securities, STocks & Mutual Funds

Appreciated securities can be given to the Educational Foundation. They can offer income tax deduction benefits as well as savings on capital gains. To transfer a gift of stock, please provide your broker with the following information:

Other Non-Cash Assets

Donating non-cash assets like personal property (art, jewelry, collections, etc.) and real estate (including land) can provide significant tax benefits for the appraised value while advancing our mission.

Other non-traditional investments, such as partnership interests, can donated after review and advice of legal counsel and upon approval of the Foundation Board of Directors.
