Carlton Roberts
University of Georgia '77
Carlton is a retired media executive and journalist. He currently serves as the Communications Director for the Alumni Advisory Board of Nu Zeta at the University of Georgia, which was rechartered in 2025. In 1989, he temporarily served as the chapter’s High Pi. He is a strong advocate for alumni engagement and building an integrated stewardship model linking local chapters and the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation.
He completed a UGA journalism degree in 1977 and spent his first 14 years editing Georgia weekly and daily newspapers. Shifting his interest to magazines, Carlton moved to New York City where he held corporate magazine management positions overseeing a wide variety of titles including Motor Trend, Teen Magazine and the NFL’s magazine startup. He also directed the startup of Cowles Business Media’s internet division. Much of his work was in media development, market positioning and applying large, syndicated consumer databases to expand underdeveloped revenue streams.
As a journalist, Carlton was active in the Georgia Press Association and is past president of the Georgia chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi. He served 10 years on the University of Georgia’s Young Alumni Council and is also an alumni of AmeriCorps Vista, developing a quality assurance model for the Veterans Administration hospital in Atlanta. Carlton and his wife, Deborah, live in Newnan, GA. He pursues a passion for documentary photography and the continuing growth of Nu Zeta.
